Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Felix Wemheuer ist Sinologe und seit April 2014 Professor an der Universität zu Köln. Er habilitierte 2013 an der Universität Wien und seine Habilitationsschrift „Famine Politics in Maoist China and the Soviet Union“ erschien bei Yale University Press (2014). Von 2008 bis 2010 forschte er als Gastwissenschaftler an der Harvard Universität am Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies. 2006 promovierte er an der Universität Wien mit der Arbeit „Steinnudeln: Ländliche Erinnerungen und staatliche Vergangenheitsbewältigung der ‚Großen Sprung‘-Hungersnot in der chinesischen Provinz Henan“. 2004 schloss er das Magisterstudium an der Ruhruniversität Bochum in Politik Ostasiens und Chinesisch ab. Von 2000 bis 2002 studierte er am Institut der Geschichte der Kommunistischen Partei Chinas an der Volksuniversität in Peking. Geboren wurde er 1977 in Bad Harzburg, verbrachte seine Kindheit in St. Andreasberg im Harz und seine Jugend in Göttingen.

Research

Dr. Felix Wemheuer sieht die Schwerpunkte seiner Forschung und Lehre in der Sozialgeschichte Chinas des 20. Jahrhunderts sowie den großen sozialen und politischen Umwälzungen der Gegenwart. Dabei spielen das ländliche China sowie Klassen- und Geschlechterverhältnisse und ethnische Minderheiten eine zentrale Rolle. Die Ära Mao Zedongs sowie die mangelnde Bewältigung ihrer Folgen prägen die Gesellschaft der Volksrepublik China noch bis heute zutiefst. Nach über zehn Jahren Forschung zur Hungersnot des „Großen Sprung nach vorne“ (1958–1961) sowie deren Aufarbeitung handelt das derzeitige Projekt von „Rebellen (造反派) an der Macht in Shandongs Kulturrevolution“. Ein Lehrbuch zur Sozialgeschichte des maoistischen Chinas erschien 2019 bei Cambridge University Press. Prof. Wemheuer arbeitet derzeit auch an einem neuen Projekt zur Globalgeschichte der „Reform und Öffnung“ 1978.
